It seems silly since it's already in book form, but we still feel like we're looking at something really private when we leaf through artist Andrew Tan's sketchbook. Far from a book of popular scenes and famous locations, we are treated instead to wonderful vignettes of Drew's life, from reservist training and life before meeting wife Yvonne to family meals, waiting at the polyclinic and trailing the tow truck that took his father's car.
FOR THE ARTISTS (and the artist in you that's busting to get out)
Each page contains handwritten notes/stories about each drawing as well as some essential "secret" drawing tips that Drew abides by. So yes, it may appear to be just another book of urban sketches but it isn't because Drew sees the world a bit differently, starting from his large stash of fountain pens which he is crazy about. It is also clear from his sketchbook that the other thing Drew is crazy about is this little island called Singapore and every small thing in it, reminding us with every stroke and splash the beauty in ordinary everyday things if we take the time to look.
BONUS material inside:
1. Tips and Tricks on How to See Shapes (and what exercises you can do to turn off the left side of your brain so the right can get on with it)
2. Tips on How to Use Tones in Your Drawings
3. A Wonderful Reference on Types of Pens and their Uses
Don't forget your sketchbook!
